Contents
Per 5 mL Guaifenesin 100 mg, triprolidine HCl 1.25 mg, pseudoephedrine HCl 30 mg
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 5 mL (1 tsp) 3 times daily. Childn 6-12 yr 2.5 mL (½ tsp) 3 times daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to triprolidine HCl, pseudoephedrine HCl, dextromethorphan HBr. Patients w/ heart problems & DM.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to other sympathomimetic drugs (eg, ephedrine, phenylpropanolamine, phenylephrine). Patients w/ severe high BP & who are receiving MAOI antidepressants. Immediately contact a physician if symptoms do not decrease w/in 3 days. Discontinue use in case of trouble sleeping, heart palpitations & dizziness. Cough accompanied by fever, redness of the skin, or persistent headache. Continuous & long-term cough (especially in patients w/ asthma, emphysema) & cough w/ excessive phlegm. Patients w/ glaucoma, prostate hypertrophy, epilepsy, hyperthyroidism & urinary retention, heart problems, DM, arrhythmias, asthma, bronchitis & pheochromocytoma. Discontinue therapy & consult a doctor if sudden severe headache &/or abdominal pain or fecal blood appears. Avoid concurrent use w/ other cold & cough medicines, antihistamines, appetite suppressants, drugs containing amphetamines & CNS suppressants. Should not exceed the recommended dosage. Impaired liver & kidney function. Pregnancy & lactation. Overwt or elderly. Childn <6 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, sedation, nervousness, dizziness, dry mouth, nose or throat, indigestion (nausea, vomiting), attention & coordination disorders, hallucinations (especially in childn), headaches, insomnia, excitation, tremors, tachycardia, palpitations arrhythmias, difficulty urinating & allergies (redness of the skin, sometimes accompanied by difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat).
Drug Interactions
Increased BP w/ sympathomimetic drugs eg, decongestants; TCAs; appetite suppressants; psychostimulants eg, amphetamines; MAOIs. Bretylium, bethanidine, guanethidine, debrisoquine, methyldopa & β/α adrenergic blocking agents. Furazolidone. Alcohol & other CNS sedatives.
